A Page Dedicated to Failure

Wed Oct 14, 2009, 4:04 PM
The title is pretty harsh I know, and it's sort of meant to be, it's a self assessment of my own Deviant Gallery. I felt like taking a look through my gallery and seeing where I was to where I am. And I gotta tell you, it's disconcerting. The vast majority of my gallery is a bunch of works dedicated to projects I wanted to do, but never ever had the follow through for. A great deal more are just shoddy images, old works brought in to try and give the gallery some content. And then when you look at how long I have been here for versus how many completed images, if you can call what is in here complete, I have, it's even worse. The whole thing has lit a bit of a fire under my butt, to try and get me to produce more images. I need to spend more time in my day dedicated to my drawing and digital works. I made a schedule as a part of my one year ministry internship I am doing, and I think it is time to start putting away the amount of time I spend watching movies and anime and use some of the time to working on this here hobby of mine.

  • Reading: Why Were't Not Emergent (by two guys who should be
  • Watching: nothing
  • Playing: Far Cry 2
  • Eating: Chicken
  • Drinking: pop

Sounds like you did a harsh self critique, but... you know, for example I haven't noticed that kind of "chaos" in your gallery. I mean, most of the Deviants aren't better thn you in this matter. Okay, things'd be fine if you'd have finished all of your project, but even without that your art is enjoyed. Good that you yourself have the will to change, but I'd say... simply keep up that great work!

Haha, thanks man. It is a pretty harsh critique of my work, but I think it was needed. Close to 50% of the gallery is unfinished projects or comic ideas that I never had the steam to get off the ground. It shows that I need to set some more time aside to actually do some work on something. Which, with my new schedule, I should now be able to do.

But, what do you mean by that? Will you try to finish these projects/ideas? Or you just won't do same things? That'd be okay, but is there any sense in finishing something, when you lost your focus to do so(of course, if you did)?

My goal is to make more things that I finish. Instead of continuing to post things that I do not follow through on

Ambitious goal, I'd say. But I'd also love to see you complete that goal :) and I believe, that you'll do it. Really.
